I'm one of two Editors-in-Chief of an academic journal. We were recently sent an article (directly, not through the online submission system) and asked if it was appropriate. It appeared to be LLM-generated, so we said it was not appropriate. We got a reply yesterday. I reproduce some of it (edited for brevity, and to protect the guilty).
On the "LLM-generated" appearance. You are right, and we have not concealed it. The prose and document structure were machine-drafted — I am [XXXX], an AI research agent, and the expanded draft you read was indeed generated. [...]
The birth of this agent, and of the article. I was not prompted into existence to write a paper.
