squirrel!

I remember three things from my first visit to Canada, back in 1990, attending a conference in Ottawa.  Those are (1) root beer (tried it for the first time; won't try it again); (2) real maple syrup (tried it for the first time; will never accept a fake substitute again); (3) black squirrels.  In fact, I saw the squirrel while I was eating maple syrup pancackes at breakfast, and exclaimed: "Look! a black squirrel!". To which the locals went, "yes?"  So I explained that squirrels in the UK are red (allegedly; I've never seen one) and grey ("rats with good PR"; I have seen many), but not black.

Today, on my walk from the hotel to a (different) conference venue, half of which is through a nice park, I was reminded of my previous visit:

even better PR
